My cousin Cinda was planning a trip from Lakeland Fl to N.C. some where in the mountains and they were going to stop by the Coca cola Museum on the way. So I asked her to stop by house for an afternoon and spend the night. She said are you sure? Cause you know their will be 11 of us, after all we do have 9 kids! I said sure why not!

So they came up, got to my house about 5:30 pm or 6. I had dinner waiting for them. I was soooooo impressed! After everyone ran around for a little while saying hello, Michael made all of the kids go wash their hands, line up at the back door, gave them a drink and made them go sit on the back deck around the table hands in their lap. Then we served them their plates and they were not aloud to eat until each one of them had received their plate and then said the blessing then they all ate together. The adults ate inside. I was amazed at how well behaved they were through that meal. Then afterwards they were not aloud up until they were told!

We then went to the park so they could burn off some of that built up energy from sitting in a van for 8 or so hrs.

When we got back to the house Cinda was amazing how she got all the kids settled with baths, showers, into p.j.’s and got them in bed. We let them watch t.v. as they fell asleep. By the way the kid’s range from 4-13 yrs old. So putting them to bed is no easy task! Cinda, Ricky and I played Skip Bo before we all went to bed.
The next morning all the kids ate some cereal, got dressed and then their dad made them ALL sit down in the living room while their mom packed up the van and got ready to go to the coke museum. Again I was amazed at the order they had with the kids. They all said good bye to Ricky and I and loaded up and went on their way!
Cinda and Michael are GREAT parents. (Did I mention they adopted 6 of these kids) God bless all of you!

{November 10, 2008}   About us

dscn0369I mentioned before we have a cat named Molly. She is the sweetest cat I have ever know! I didn’t know that cats could be like dogs and come up and lick you, but Molly showed me this is true! You can be sitting down doing whatever and she will come up to you sit in your lap and start purring away, rub up against you and then just start licking your face or hand with that sand paper tongue. It is the weirdest feeling! Also something odd about Molly she can sometimes be belemic! She eats then throws it up. I have been trying different thing’s for her food and it has helped.

dscn2387Molly

Then their is “CRY BABY” our OTHER cat. He is a beautifulcat, but he gets on my LAST nerve! When we first got him it was in Oct so I named him Pumpkin. He was the cutest little kitten, but then he grew up and became the most annoying cat ever! So the only time he EVER comes around me is when he wants to eat! He doesn’t just hang out, he CRIES and CRIES and CRIES (hence the name cry baby) until you feed him! Then when you try to pet him he hisses at you and runs. So I say what good is the food eating, pooping machine? Something to look at and something to annoy me. I let him go outside thinking he might want to venture out and have some fun, what does he do? You got it cries at the door till I open it! He is loved though. Alyssa and Ricky love him. For some reason he bonds with them. I just put up with him!

Oh I almost forgot the most funny part. (at least I think so) Yesterday I had candles burning like I always do. Cry Baby and Molly jumped up by where I had the candles burning to take a short cut to their food. Molly bumps Cry Baby and his tail catches on fire!! I didn’t see it, (darn it) but Alyssa was standing right there and starts SCREAMING “Cry Baby is on fire” she slaps at his tail and that sends him running down the steps and onto the couch. I’m running down the steps thinking the house is going to catch on fire! So Alyssa grabs him and gets the flames out. The goods news is the house was not touched with any burns! The bad news is the cat was not HURT at ALL!! Just kidding, I’m glad he was not hurt! Didn’t need a vet bill. Our house smelled horrible for hrs of burnt fur.

n902245525_4649072_8694oh-yea2Here are my beauties! They are dressed up for Home Coming Dance. Alyssa is with John her boyfriend now of 4 months and Emiley’s “NEW” date met up with her later. They went out to eat at Ole Charley’s and then went to the dance. “Who looks the oldest”? Unfortunately I think Alyssa wins that one. Emiley is the oldest in the black dress! I’m so proud of them! I can’t believe how FAST they grow up before your eyes! occasion’s

{November 6, 2008}   Getting To Know Me

For those of you that don’t know me that well I will start here. I was born in Clayton Co. Georgia. Grew up in Jonesboro, Riverdale, Fayetteville and graduated from Villa Rica High. I moved to Orlando Fl when I was 17 and started my life there. I met my first husband in Orl. Got married at 18. Had my first daughter at 19 Emiley. (who is now 17) and then 2yrs and 8 months later had Alyssa my second daughter. (who is now 14) I lived in Orlando for 2 1/2 yrs and then moved to Miami where my ex husbands parents live. We ended up buying a house in Hollywood Fl and lived a total of 8 yrs there. I was a stay at home mom during those yrs and had some part time jobs. Then we moved to Fayetteville Ga in Nov 2000. And 2 yrs later I got a divorce. I started working at Ga Power and met my WONDERFUL husband now of 4 1/2 yrs. I read meters for Ga Power 3 1/2 yrs. Ricky my husband still works their I think 31 yrs total. He is a Super Visor. He works very hard. We can’t wait till he retires so we can be together all the time. And so he won’t have to drive to Atlanta (33 miles each way) every day. Anyway, Ricky and I got married March 19, 2004. We bought a house in Acworth Ga, which is very close to Red Top Mt. (we go there often) Ricky is a great father to Emiley and Alyssa. They love him dearly. He doesn’t try to replace their dad (who they go see every other weekend and whenever they want) but he is wonderful to them!! They love him very much.

Emiely is 17. She is a Junior in High School. She is VERY involved with ROTC and plans to go in the Air Force, then college of some sort and maybe the medical field like her dad. She is a very sweet girl and loves to socialize.

Alyssa is 14. She is a freshman in High School. She has her 1st “REAL” boyfriend John, whom I really like! (that’s a BIG plus) She also is involved with ROTC. She makes all A’s and B’s in school. Which I’m so happy for her, cause I know it’s not easy and she works hard to do this! She is spreading her wings in her new world of High School.

We have two cats Molly & Crybaby. (I will explain how crybaby got his name some other time)

We have two dogs Georgia & Bailey. I adore my pets so you will pro bally here Lot’s about them!

I have my on cleaning business. My Mom works with me. We have been doing this almost 3 yrs now. Business is slow right now. But we hope that gets better!!

Well that’s all for now. Hope you found out something new about me!

dscn02518Having fun on the Merry Go Round!

{November 6, 2008}   Hello world!

Well I’m officially a Blogger! Brand new to this world, so it will take some time to get use to it. I really have no idea what I’m doing. But I say “Why not try it, it’s something new” God knows I need to try some new thing’s here and there. I DO have a lot to learn!

For now I’m just letting you know I’m HERE in this new world!

See ya Shannon

{November 10, 2008}   My Hubby
I mentioned a little bit about my hubby (Ricky) a little bit in a blog before, but now I would like for you really to get to know him. He grew up in Smyrna Ga. Lived their until he was 49. So by living in one area for 49 yrs you tend to know a lot of people and a lot of people know you. He was married to his 1st wife 29 yrs and has two daughters Melissa is 32 (I think, pretty sure) and has been married two yrs. Jennifer is 29 and has been married 6 yrs. Jennifer and Drew have a two yr old son Justice. (Yes I’m a Mimi at 37 and it’s WONDERFUL)Ricky has been working at Georgia Power for 31 or 32 yrs now. (Ricky is not here to tell me all the FACTS so bare with me on all the numbers, they are close!) He is a Super Visor over Meter Readers and People that cut power off and on. He has about 25 people under him, so lots of responsibility! He does a great job at managing everyone. Ricky and I met in 2002 and got married March of 2004. Ricky has shown me what love truly is. I have never loved or been loved as much as I have until I met Ricky. He has the most unique personality. We are both givers. We want to make people around us happy. And for the first time we were both around someone else that gave to us! We enjoy spoiling each other. For instance: Ricky likes doing the grocery shopping, (which is great!) he likes to cook on the grill a lot, he likes to wash clothes, he likes to wrap Christmas gifts, etc….. So I put the clothes away, clean up the dishes and make side dishes for dinner. What I’m trying to say is, he doesn’t do ALL the work at home and neither do I . We spoil each other by doing what the other doesn’t like to do. Ricky spoils Emiley and Alyssa a lot to, by taking them or picking them up to the movies, to friends houses etc…. Buys them the snacks they want. Spoils them on their B-days and Christmas!

Let me tell you if Ricky has it and enough of it he will give you the “coat off his back”  or his last dollar that is the type guy he is. I’m so proud to be his wife and he is the first man I have EVER been “in love with”. His giving heart makes him the wonderful man he is. His mother and father did a great job of raising him.

Ricky and I are best friends. We use to be hooked on Rummy! Then the WII. Now we are hooked on Skip Bo! Every day when Ricky comes home from work one of us will say “want to play Skip Bo?” We must play it 30 or more times a week. Alyssa now will play with us when she is really bored. We think it’s a fun game.

We also like to go hiking together. We use to go bowling on Wed $1 days. But since we got our WII system we just bowl at home. I forgot to mention Ricky has been playing baseball/softball since he was 10 or so. He is extremly good at it. I love watching him play.

I think God every day for Ricky!

{November 11, 2008}   My visit with Justice

Today I was very blessed by getting to spend several hrs playing with my  2 yr old grandson Justice! As you can see here we played with play dough, which was fun for both of us! It’s been a while you see since I have actually played with play dough! We made a snake, turtle, shark, and some peas, and pasta. This lasted maybe 15 mins. Pretty good attention span for a 37 yr old. Hmm Hmm I mean a 2 yr old!

After Justice left me playing by myself, we then played car’s and trucks. Then we went outside to play on Justice’s cool playground. We went down the slide twice. Then I wanted to swing with Justice sitting in my lap but he wanted to go. Go where you ask? He saw my car sitting in the drive way  so he took me to the gate and pointed to the car. So we went to get the my keys and went to the car. After 10 or 15 mins of Justice playing with EVERYTHING inside the car I told Justice lets go play of the playground. He promptly said “no” and then I said yes and took him back inside the yard. (I was bored in the car) Then he started up the steps to the house so I thought “ fine we will go back inside”.

We watched some Courios George and played some more cars and trucks. Then Mommy (Jennifer) came home and she invited me to stay for lunch so I did. I really enjoyed spending the morning with Justice, and also enjoyed eatting lunch and talking to Jenn. I’m so blessed to have both of them in my life. Not only do I have two teenage daughters whom I really enjoy hanging with, but I also have two grown daughters whom I really consider my friends.

{November 12, 2008}   Christmas in November? HUH?

Well it’s getting to be that time of year again! You go into a store and you already see all the Christmas decoration’s and everyone is having these “GREAT” sales etc… So Emiley tells me the other day she wants to go shopping for “HER” stuff from us already, you know while the good sales are on and the “GOOD” stuff doesn’t get picked over. (she means clothes and shoe’s) I’m hardly ever in a shopping mood but, yesterday just kind of struck me. So I sent the girl’s a text and told them when Ricky got home we would come pick them up from ROTC practice and go to Kholes where they like to clothes shop. I was thinking maybe an hour! YEAH RIGHT!!!

I should have know better with two teen girls and a husband that likes to shop. I’m blessed that I trust my hubby to pick out my clothes and get a GREAT bargin! What can I say he is a very well rounded guy. (works his job, can cook, clean, shop, wrap gifts, play’s ball, great with money) Sorry, back to subject: So we go to Kholes we all find a few thing’s about 40mins,  so I’m ready to go home, and start dinner. Emiley says can we go over to Old Navy since it’s right next door. I say fine. In their 15 mins we ALL find nothing. Then Emiley says can we go to Pay Less since it’s right next door? (she is on a mission to find boots) With disguest I say YEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSS! Quickly! 15 more or so mins she finds some I’m paying for them, mean time Alyssa and Ricky go back to Kholes for Alyssa some tennie shoe’s. Great! So then Ricky says he wants to run in Target. You guessed it right next door. I’m like your kidding. So we allllllll go to Target. We all find a few more thing’s. Then Ricky says we have to go by the $1 store to get boxes for the gifts. I’m thinking “Why TONIGHT, we have 1 month and 1/2 till Christmas” So we go back and forth about going by that store so we go, I stay in the car for peace and quiet.

Then we are all hungery by now. So we go to Wendy’s to eat. So we are eatting, bonding etc.. Finally we get HOME! HOME SWEET HOME!!! Guess what Ricky start doing? (I love you honey) yes WRAPPING CHRISTMAS gifts!!! I’m like honey it’s 8 something at night lets chill and hold each other or play Skip Bo. He says ‘just 3 more it won’t take me long”  So we already have Christmas gifts wrapped! I’m not complaining! Just thought I would share with you. So it’s time to get in that HAPPY HAPPY SHOPPING MODE. Make sure you are nice and kind to others while you are shopping and don’t fight over that parking spot, just walk the extra few feet and you will have that much exercising to do that night.

{November 15, 2008}   Work Day’s

I mentioned before my Mom and I clean houses together. Thursday we stopped at a local restaurant called “Family Tradition” we ate breakfast there for the first time. (we usually eat lunch or dinner there) It was very good. I had eggs, grits and toast. Can’t really remember what my Mom had but she ate it so it must have been good.

(my Mom waiting for her food, reading my blog on paper)

So then after we filled out belly’s we drove to Canton. (which is 28 miles north of us) That’s were our job was for the day. When we got to our clients house who live out in the semi country/mountains this is what we saw. It took my breathe! This is why I love Fall/Autumn!

{November 16, 2008}   Bailey

I mentioned before that I have two dogs. Bailey is a maltise. He weighs 6 lbs. He just turned a yr old in Aug. I even had a b-day cake for him. He is my “baby” since my girl’s have become teens. I put clothes on him and take him ALMOST  every where with me. I have a doggie purse he fits into. So no one even knows he is with me, inside stores, movies, etc… I know it’s silly, but I love him!

Two bad thing’s about a Maltise: 1. They are white and they get dirty ALL the time! 2. You have to get them groomed every 2 to 3 months. (which cost about $35) Other than that they are GREAT companions!

The first picture is Bailey before getting his hair cut, the 2nd one is Bailey during getting his hair cut.

{November 17, 2008}   Friends

I’ve been thinking a lot about friends lately. It seems to me when you make a friend with someone at a certain time and place in your life things are going good and then circumstances change. A LOT of times that friendship starts to decrease. I mean you may not get together as much or you may call each other a little less. Then in no time a month goes by and you realize you haven’t even talked to your friend that was so dear to you. I think this is VERY sad! My hubby told me this could happen but I didn’t want to believe him, because I thought my friendships were so strong. It seems to me like I am usually the one to call, to email, to text, and to go over to my friend’s house. Then when I make new friends somehow the friends I end up making seem to follow that same pattern. I ask myself “how does this happen to me in ALMOST every friendship I make?” Am I to needy? I don’t think so. Do I try to give too much? I don’t think you can EVER give your time, and love enough too much. But the problem is I DON”T WANT to be the ONLY ONE doing the reaching out! Friendship to me is a two way street just like any other relationships. Speaking of relationships; this applies to my family life also. It’s very frustrating to me but I don’t want to keep loosing friendships and family relationships. So…. I looking for some advise. I really understand that circumstances in our lives change. I also understanding that the busyness of life takes time away from our friendships. Do I expect too much from a friendship? Am I being realistic? I really don’t know. How do you maintain strong friendships?                                                 I saw the best movie the other night for the 3rd time. This movie is actually what got me to thinking about my friends and relationships. ”Now and Then” is the name of the movie which was made in the late 90′s. It is a GREAT movie. It reminded me of my friend Tracy and I. We have know each other since we were 2. The movie is about 4 girls who started being friends at the age of 12 and they maintained that friendship throughout their adult lives.

{November 18, 2008}   Long Lost Friends

Tracy and I have known each other  since we were 2 yrs old. We are now 37. (Yes we are close to being old, not quite their yet) Tracy and her mom have ALWAYS been their for me and my Mom. Our mom’s worked together when were two and started hanging out for MANY yrs and are still friends. I only remember from the time Tracy and I went to Kindergarden to now. We were in the same class and stayed with Joyce after 1/2 day kindergarden the days our moms both worked. Other day’s we would stay with Tracy’s mom or my mom. Then I remember going to 1st grade together. I cried and Tracy didn’t and we liked the same boy Robbie Jones. That’s all I remember about that yr. Then 2nd through 6th grade we always had different teachers, at the same school. I hated that cause I wasn’t with my “Guard” my friend. But of course we each made new friends and hung out after school EVERY day. We played with her dog Bubbles, she followed Tracy every where! We played in Tracy’s club house in her back yard! We played “DUKES OF HAZARDS”  we always made the poor “FAT” girl Janice  (neighbor kid) play BOSS HOG’s wife. (yes I was mean at the time, SORRY janice, don’t worry I’m the one over weight NOW, so now you can laugh) Tracy was Daisy! And I was BO. Cause I was ALWAYS the “Tom Boy” and I thought he was good looking.

Then my Mom got remarried and we move to Fayetteville. I changed schools. I thought I would DIE without Tracy and her Mom. They were after all my sis and 2nd Mom! Then bad deep dark bad thing’s happened and WE (my Mom and I moved out) Alice and Dennis (Tracy’s dad) took us in when I was 14 or so and I went to middle school with Tracy for a short short time then we moved again and again and again! (You get the point) So Tracy and I slit up as far as going to school together and not be able to hang out cause of distance. We ended up graduating from High school (2 differnent schools same yr 89) and I moved to Orl Fl. Got married way to young. Kept in touch through phone calls, me visiting as often as possible etc… Finally in 2000 Nov I moved back to Ga and got back in touch with Tracy. I kept Haily for a little while, when Tracy was working outside the home. Then she started working at home and I got a divorce and between Alice (Tracy’s Mom) and Tracy I stayed with both of them for a month or so before getting my own place. It’s like we never were apart all those yrs   we just picked up where we left off! They were their for my mom going through hard times and then THEY were their for me during hard times! Thank God for people like Alice, Dennis and Tracy!!! I really appericate them.

Then I got remarried, moved an hour away and life went on. We lost touch, but still LOVED each other. Sent B-day cards, Christmas cards, and a few phone calls. Oh my dear friend Tracy and my 2nd Mom Alice how I regret NOT taking the time to come and visit ya’ll more often and calling more often. But I will do better and hope you will have the same desires. I love you both!!!!!

Tracy (is on the left) and her sis Cathy

{November 21, 2008}   Custmer Service

So the last two times we have eatten at Chile’s we have received our meals free! And we are not the kind of people that set out to do this!

The first time. Ricky went by Chilies to pick up the food I order ahead of time. When he got there to pick up the food. He had to wait 15 mins before the food was ready. ( hence the reason we CALLED ahead of time.) He over heard someone say the other waitress took her wings that were suppose to be to go. So they told Ricky it would be just a few mins. After waiting the 15 mins they gave him his order. When we got it home his wings were wrong and I had 6 little nacho chips with a little bit of cheese and a little lettuce. When you order your food when sitting down you get double the about!

So we ate our crappy food and felt like we got RIPPED off! So then I did their wonderful survey on the net and 4 days later I received a $20 gift card to go eat their again. The 2nd  time it was good!

So Wednesday we went inside Chilies at about 5:15. Hardly anyone their. Except a couple with a crying baby that were a ways away but you still heard the baby crying. Then our waitor gets us drinks, takes our order. (which was two appatizers) Should have taken 15 mins! So after waiting 25 mins and not hearing anything from our waitor. Ricky ask another waitress to see a manager. We got our food that was cold before the manager came over. So Ricky told the manager what the problem was. So she said the food was paid for. Then she said she would get us fresh orders but we couldn’t wait cause we had to go pick up the kids for church and I had to be at work! So while we were eatting our cold food the hostess sits to Moms right behind us with their two crying babies! Mind the place was almost empty. So why would she sit the women with two small babies right behind us GOD only knows. To say the least I was pissed! So the women don’t talk to each other much, they are both on their cell phones talking to other people while both their babies are crying. GOOD GREIF!

FYI when you take your babies out to eat with you and they start getting fussy, do something about it, instead of just making everyone else suffer! ( my daughter Jenn does this and I think she is a great MOM) (she took Justice to the bathroom until he was ok) Then after I was finished eatting I sat with him in the van so she could eat.

Anyways what ever happen to custmer service??

{November 22, 2008}   Friday Night In The Big Atl

First of all, this is Ricky. Shannon asked me to do a blog about our evening in Atlanta and the Hawks game. Every other Friday at 4:30PM, we take the girls to meet their dad off I-285 near I-20. Great area for dropping off kids .. huh? Last night was to be our 1st of 5 Hawk’s games over the next couple of months. The Hawks are actually having a good year so far, so I was pretty excited to see them play. Having seats 3 rows from courtside was also exciting for this man-kid. After we dropped the girls off, we headed straight for Pilips Arena. Since we were almost 3 hours early, we decided to do the site-seeing thing for the 67th time (we had season tickets 3 or 4 years ago). Ah ha! The Westin Peachtree Plaza brings back memories of when Shannon and I won a free night’s stay there for being the “fan of the game” a few years back. We won’t even talk about what we had to do to win that! What happens at the arena … stays in the arena. Next, we visited Olympic Park which was across from where we always park for free. That’s right free! Remember I work in the downtown Atlanta area. The only problem with parking for free is you always have to deal with the homeless folks wanting money to watch over your car which, by the way, is parked on a public street in front of Ted’s Montanna Grille. Then there’s the wonderful CNN Center. Since the temperature was already in the 30′s, we rushed inside. I was doing my normal semi-fast-paced walk as we entered from the Marietta Street side. As I got up to the top of the steps, I turned around and Shannon was talking to a lady (and her 2 kids.. I think) sitting at the bottom of the steps. You guessed it … Shannon donated $2 to the ”save the homeless fund” to that family. What a wonderful and thoughtful wife! Now what? 2 more hours to game time .. (I thought) until I looked at the tickets. Now it’s 2.5 hours to gametime. Ok.. go ahead and take another picture to prove that we were at the CNN Center. Next … it’s time to eat. Shannon got one taco and I got one donut. As we sat down to eat, Shannon decided to start reading her book. I started dozing off. The problem was my sleep apnea. As I would nod off, 2 cops would look around as if someone had just bombed the place. That’s what sleep apnea sounds like to the rest of the world. I decided to walk around and let Shannon read. I found a Braves Store. I went straight to the clearance rack and found Shannon a cute little $50 hoodie for $10 bucks. It was to be a Christmas gift. I decide to let her try it on because if it didn’t fit, I could return it. You guess it. It didn’t fit and I returned it. I thought I would sneak out and make sure our car was still there. About the time I was talking to a cop and a few homless folks, Shannon paged me and said .. “Where are you?” I rushed back. By now it was only 20 minutes until we could get into the area so we could wait one more hour until game time. Like two little kids, we rushed to our seats to wait. Shannon got bored and went walking around. She came back. I got bored and walked around. We did actually watch the players warm up. Finally .. it was game time. Shannon asked me to predict the score. I said the Hawks would win 98-93. She wrote it down so she could rub it in later. Here we go! Row 3 seats 7 & 8. Not many folks around us until … a Charles Barkley look alike sat right down in front of me. Do you know how big Charles Barkley’s head is? After 7 minutes into the game, the Hawks only had 6 points and were down by about 10 points. I had to look around Barkley’s head to see the score. Everything finally started getting better. The Hawks started winning and we had slid down 3 seats so we could see around Barkley’s head. The highlight of the night for me was when they allowed a bunch of guys to come down and dance on the court. I joined them, however; I didn’t realize that we had to take our shirts off. As you can see, I’ve put on a few pounds over the past few months. The last 6 minutes of the game was very exciting and entertaining. The Hawks actually made a comeback and won the game (88-83). Everyone left the arena very happy and in a good mood. We made it back to our car safely and made it back home safely. Our Friday night in the Big A was over. We got home and played a couple of games of Skip-Bo and a couple games of WII. My young and beautiful wife went to bed exhausted. Me … I stayed up and plaed WII until 3AM. One day this Man-Child will grow up but not anytime soon.

{November 27, 2008}   SHOPPING, SHOPPING, SHOPPING
The girls and I went shopping AGAIN to finish up for them for Christmas. I thought I better catch them on a day off from school other wise they would be to busy to hang out with BORING Mom! We started off at T.J. Max. They found nothing! Then we went to Marshall, Alyssa found some under wear! So then we went to the “MALL”! My fav store is J.C. Pennys for clothes, so I took them there. Do you think they found ANYTHING? NO! So we went to 5,7,9 then Rave and that’s where they bought their clothes! The only reason I like going to the mall is window shopping, walking, and people watching! But of course they love it! So after shopping for 3 hrs, I had to sit for a while and chill out!

{November 28, 2008}   Visit to Good Friend’s House
On Nov 26 Wednesday, (the day before ThanksGiving) the girls and I went to visit Alice and Tracy at Alice’s house in Hampton Georgia. Which is about an hour drive south of us. Tracy and her two kids went over to Alice’s house also. I hadn’t seen Alice in over a year and Tracy 3 yrs. (we all decided we would NOT let that much time go by without seeing each other AGAIN!) But you know what? When we got together (other than all of us being older) it was like time had stood still. We just picked up where we left off last time we saw each other. That’s the kind of people Dennis, (Tracy’s dad) Alice and Tracy are! I’m so happy that they have been apart of my life! It was so wonderful to reconnect with them again!
Alice showed me her new hardwood floors, that were just beautiful! Tracy caught me up with what her kids had been doing. Haily will be a “Preteen” (even though Tracy didn’t want to admit that) on Monday! She is turning 11. (Preteen= ages 11 & 12) Tyler is 5. She said like all kids they keep her busy! And I’m sure stressed! Haily talked to me quite a bit, caused she remembered me, but Tyler took a while to warm up to me. But he sure did like Alyssa! “Hey Tyler she’s a little old for you little man” (9yrs to old) I think he had a little crush on her.
Alice made us lunch and we all pigged out, cause the spaghetti was so good. After we filled our bellies and socialized the girls and I headed back North!
We had a great visit and plan to do it again during the Christmas break when the kids are out of school for 2 weeks.

Twas’ the morning after Thanksgiving and all thru the store, Ricky and Shannon were there for the Door Busters and much much more.

As they dashed into Penneys, they were almost pushed down, by evil looking women wearing only a frown.

The women were running around in circles looking for a steal, as the two of us split up to see who could find the best deal.

At last Shannon found a leather jacket. Immediately I said “let’s go .. I’ve had enough of this racket.”

We eased our way around the extremely long lines to pay for all of our junk. It’s a good thing we drove the van because we had too much for the VW trunk.

As we finally walked out of Penney’s and left that crazy place, a lady fell at my feet as if she had been sprayed by mace.

Little did I know that she was just in a hurry but after I saw her horrible fall, I began to worry.

Are these early bargains really worth risking your life? I guess if they are like me, they just want to please their wife.

Off to the next store .. here we go, looking for another great deal just like the one be-fo.

After 3 hours of shopping, I was getting tired and ill. I could care less if I ever found another deal.

Wal-Mart is where our journey would end, by the time we got there I had only five bucks left to spend.

I looked at Shannon and I and heard not a peep, her head was wobbling as she was almost asleep.

I told her … “We’re almost thru honey.” She said.. “Time to go home… we have no more money!”

I began to laugh as she looked like she was about to cry. It was about then I began to ask myself why?

As I looked back, was it worth it all? Coming out of Wal-Mart I was almost in a crawl.

What started out to a fun time with my wife ended up with me hearing about a New York man losing his life.

Greedy people trampled him down until he was dead! Then my thoughts immediately turned back to the lady at Penney’s who almost busted her head.

My Door Buster (after Thanksgiving) shopping days are now a thing of the past. At one time it was really a blast.

{November 30, 2008}   Thanksgiving

{December 1, 2008}   Snow chasing

I heard their was going to be snow, first they said here at our house, well they were right but it was a few flurries. Whoppi! I wanted to see real snow. So last night I got on the computer to find out where it was going to REALLY snow. So they said Clayton Ga. Then they said Tiger Mountain Ga. So after I cleaned an office at 5:30am, Georgia, Bailey and I took off to the mountains. 2hrs later it started pouring down snow and we started seeing it sticking on the ground. It was soooooo cooooool!!! Bailey, Georgia and I played in the snow for a while. We went on accross the top of the state and down to Blairsville, Hiawassa, and then into Blue Ridge. Blue Ridge had a lot of snow. It was so pretty! I went into a lot of the little downton shops. Then ate some food!

I was asked to dog sit over the weekend. Willie is a “GoldenDoodle” part Golden Retriver & Poodle. At first Bailey didn’t like him so I had to put Bailey 4lbs dog outside. Willie is bigger than Georgi who is 42lbs. Anyway after Willie wasn’t scared any more I brought Bailey inside and all 3 became friends. They played ALL weekend! Willie fell in love with Ricky because he is not around men much. So Ricky had a new friend. We didn’t get a lot of sleep for two nights cause Willie thought he needed to play and didn’t like being in his create but other than that we all had a great time.

{December 10, 2008}   Trimming the Tree

We started getting our tree and decorations out last week, but didn’t actually put the tree up till Saturday night. Since the girl’s never want to help with this project any more Ricky and I did it while they were working as “Elves” for Santa in Buckhead! THEY LOVE DOING THAT JOB!!!

So Ricky put the tree together, then put the lights on and I put the ornaments on. Jennifer is making us a bow this year for the topper so we have to pick that up from her.

Ricky and I had fun and the girl’s thought it was pretty and were glad they didn’t have to help. I think I will let them take it all down after Christmas! I can’t believe they don’t like to “Trim the Tree”

Don't they look cute!

{December 19, 2008}   Memories

I would like to hear from you “What kind of Memories (tradition’s) do you make on a regular basis at Christmas?” Please respond!!! I would love to hear your feed back!

Mine are: Baking cookies, we have been doing this since the girls were two years old at least! Opening one present each on Christmas eve. On Christmas Eve going out and looking at Christmas lights. The past two yrs finding families in NEED and asking for help to raise money for them, collecting the money and then buying that family presents! (this yr our church asked for coats for the homeless so I have been collecting them) Those are the ones that I can think of off the top of my head!

I must admit I miss the girls believing in Santa and all the fun that goes into that, but that’s what grandkids are for! Right?

{December 22, 2008}   Serving the Less Fortunate

Me picking out something to put in a box

Me picking out something to put in a box

The month of Dec our Pastor at church has been preaching about “Shopping Less, and Serving More”. So at the end of the service their has been sign up sheets to serve. I looked them over and one was to pack boxes of food to be delivered to familiesin need. I thought hey Ricky and I could do this. (I wanted the girl’s to come also but they were at their dads) So I asked Ricky about it and we both agreed. On Saturday am we helped SEVERAL other people from church pack food. Then others took them out to the families.

This really hit home, because when I got a divorce and moved into a duplex with the girls I found myself  “IN NEED”!! And guess what? People from my church gave us boxes of  food and a whole lot of  other stuff for Christmas. So the old saying “What Comes Around Goes Around” came true for me.

So I have a challenge for you. Go out and serve someone! Someone you know personally or go to a church, or Must Ministry, etc…. and volunteer your time. You may think you don’t have much but their is ALWAYS someone out their that has less or their problems are a lot worse!

Not to be prideful but let me know what you did. Kind of  like the movie “Pay It Forward”. Trust me God will bless you for giving not just money (I know money is tight) but your TIME!!!!!!

{December 27, 2008}   Four Christmases

Christmas has come and gone, but I must say (other than Melissa & Jim not being with us) this has been one of my best Christmas yet with Ricky! It started off by a WONDERFUL Christmas Eve service at our church! This was no ordinary service, it was like we had paid to go to a concert kind of service! (It was that good)

1st Christmas

We went over to Ricky’s mom’s house like we do every Christmas Eve. Stanley and all his family was there. Jenn, Drew, Justice were there a so was my mom. We had a GREAT dinner! We had great fellowship with one another. There was no talk about BUSH (not the beans)! (THANK GOD…that subject ALWAYS causes much stress) We all had fun watching Justice opening presents andplaying with toys. Carrie (Kyle’s bride to be) was our newest guest. Carrie, Jenn andI all enjoyed playing with Justice’s new toy (his grill) from Aunt Mel and unlce Jim. I can’t explain in words how much we missed Jim, Mel and Robert (Ricky’s Dad). We all just had lots of fun! (guess you had to be there)

1st Christmas Part II

Next; Ricky and I went home and continued our tradition. On Christmas Eve we always use our “alone” time to open our gifts to each other! We both LOVED all of our gifts. We also gave the dogs their stockings filled with goodies. They ate their turkey legs forever that night. It was to warm for a fire, so we just laid in front of the fireplace and held each other for a while after opening our gifts. We also talked about how so BLESSED we are to have each other. I went to bed at 2:00AM and Ricky went to bed at 5:00AM.

2nd Christmas:

So Christmas morning came. I went and picked up June (Ricky’s Mom) and then I went to pick up the girls from their dads (our meeting place). When I got back my Mom and Ricky were waiting for us at home. Mom was making breakfast and I let the kids open their stockings. After we ate a wonderful breakfast, my mom made we all sat around and watched each other open their gifts. Everyone got what they wanted and then some! After a while passed our Mom’s went home and the girls hung out, Ricky and I tried to take a nap before our 3rd Christmas. Ricky dosed a little and I just laid in bed and tossed and turned. I was so excited I couldn’t nap even though I was dead tired!

3rd Christmas: At about 1:00 my dad arrived. We sat down for our 2nd meal and ate lunch. (more like the 4 of us picked at our food and watched my dad eat, we were not hungry from breakfast) Then we sat down and opend gifts. (again)  The girls were THRILLED at the gift they got from my dad, it is what they have been wanting for a while! Guitar Hero for. My dad came to tears when he opened his gift from us, also something he had been wanting for a VERY long time. A man’s Emarldring. (I found it at a price I could afford at a pawn shop, it looked like new) This was a VERY special Christmas for all of us, because it was the 1st Christmas we had spent togher in 20 yrs. (long story) My dad later said it was the best Christmas he had ever had in his LIFE. So that made me happy. My dad is 70 yrs old so you never know how many more Christmases we may have left together.

4th Christmas: Around 5pm we ate our 3rd meal of the day! Ricky made Bar b que Chicken on the grill, grilling beans and a few other thing’s. Jennifer, Drew andJustice came over. After we all ate we then sat around and opened presents! (again) We of course had the most fun watching Justice open his andthen played with the toys he got. Again everyone got what they wanted and more!

We are truly blessed! Not because of the gifts we received but because of the family we have, to be with!

We truly had a BLESSED Christmas!

I love my girl’s dearly, but like other mom’s about this time of  year I think I’m not the only one wanting them to go back to school, so ALL of OUR routines can get back to normal! Every day since the day after Christmas all I’ve heard is: Can I go here, can I go there? Can you drop me off here can you pick me up here. My new job title is TAXI driver! The problem is I don’t get paid for it. Mean time I’m still cleaning houses and offices and trying to clean our house, and fixing dinners etc….

So yeah I’m ready for my wonderful girls to go back to school!

{December 31, 2008}   New Beginnings

I think 2008 will always be remembered as the Hardest economic yr a lot of us ever had to deal with! That is if you’re 40 and younger. This year is the 1st time I have EVER seen gas 4.29 a gallon and actually had to pay for it. Also, it is the first time I have EVER waited in line more than 1 min for gas. This year is the MOST I have heard of people being close or already loosing their homes! Just last night one of Ricky’s employee’s mentioned this. It made me sooooo sad for him, his wife and 4 kids. I actually use to work with this person myself. I know he’s not one to just throw his money around!  Americans take soooooooo much for granted. WE as Americans think we are immune from anything like our house will ever be taken away from us cause we can’t pay our bills. Ricky opened my eyes that we could very well be in that same boat pretty easily. (we are ok, but it could happen to ANY OF US) We just put our trust in God and try to be frugal with what he gives us PRAY, that thing’s will be ok.

Another thing that I have never heard so much about is HOW BAD the STOCK market is! I NEVER pay attention to the stock market, but this year it has truly affected  our lives. When your husband comes home and says in a VERY depressed voice that we just lost 18 to 20 thousand in our 401k from the stock market your heart just stinks down in the pit of your stomach!  You ask him “What can we do” and he says NOTHING. There is not anything we can do, then you just feel hopeless and pray!

Another thing I have NEVER heard so much about is people loosing their jobs! Ricky and I have been VERY blessed that we still have work. For me it is very little but it’s consistent for now, thanks to 2 office jobs that I clean. This is the LEAST amount of  houses I’ve ever had. I get VERY nervous though when he comes home and tells me their will be NO raises in the company (Georgia Power) next yr.  Plus there is a hiring freeze. Our medical insurance is going way up. God forbid if one of  us happens to have to go in the hospital for anything.

I’m not trying to be all negative, it’s just been a SUPER hard year for everyone! I am VERY thankful for my family, and what God has blessed us with. I try VERY hard not to take for granite what I do have! I have lived VERY POOR, so I know what it’s like, but thank God He has blessed me as the yrs have gone by. I just give HIM the glory.

I just hope and pray that 2009 will be MUCH BETTER!! Also I look forward to the “NEW Beginning” of this NEW YEAR coming up!

Like many many other people I am trying to loose unwanted weight and want to shed at least 20 lbs. I want to exercise MORE. I also want to live a healthier life, by eating better. Good Luck to Me!

Ricky and I got invited to a party from one of his softball buddies. So we are going. We probably won’t stay till mid night but we will have fun!

Saying good bye to 2008!

We were invited over to Ricky’s brothers house Stanley & Vickie for lunch. We had the traditional New Years Day food. Collards, (for money) black eye peas (for luck) of course we had other food also. It was awesome! We first watched the Georgia game and then during half time ate. Then finished watching the game. Georgia beat Michigan in the Capital One Bowel game. It was an amazing game. Ricky and I went to Auburndale  Fl (which is 13 miles away from Lake land) for a softball tournament last Thursday-Sunday. While we were there we went over to my cousins house Cinda’s for a visit. We had such a great time. I hadn’t seen my cousin in 7 yrs. (Far to long) Since last time I had seen her she and her husband Michael has adopted 4 more kids. So now they are a family of 11. Six out of the nine kids are adopted, which I just think the world of Cinda and Michael for doing that. Giving each child that were bouncing from Foster home to Foster home a stable place to live! I told her I could never do it, but I truly respect her and Michael for it!

When Cinda and Michael 1st had Savannah and Deserie as Foster kids, I saw all the ups and down they went through, all the crying and the joy. One day I would talk to Cinda and she would be so happy cause of something that would bring the adoption closer and then another day I would talk to her and she would be bawling  from thinking the kids were going back to their “Bio Mom”. I felt so horrible for her, and those girls. I think Savannah was 2 and Deserie was 10 months. Now they are teens. And they are Hall’s like it should be! Cinda has done a wonderful job with them and all of her kids!

Ricky and I were shocked at how orderly the house was of 9 kids when we walked in the door. No mess. No fighting! No screaming at one another. At one time their were 4 kids hovered around one computer. Again no fighting, no yelling. We were in SHOCK!

Then their were some kids that were outside, (YES outside) playing like kids use to do, and they were VERY happy!  What was really a trip was dinner time. Cinda had all the kids get their plate line up at the table she served them each their food and then they all sat down and ate together! The kids ages are from 4 to 15. 4 boys and 5 girl’s.

As you can tell I’m VERY proud of my cousin Cinda! God has TRULY blessed her and Michael with a wonderful family.

{January 20, 2009}   Snow Chasing Part 2

Saturday was the first snow of THIS year. (I should say snow FLURRIES) Then it turned into sleet, then just rain. So last night I heard their was going to be snow again tomorrow, first they said here at our house, well they were right but it was a few flurries again. Whoppi! I wanted to see real snow. So last night I got on the computer to find out where it was going to REALLY snow. They said Adairsville and Dalton, but again it did not stick! This time I asked my new friend Patrica if she wanted to go with me. So she said sure. So we went straight up 75 north. Past Adairsville, no snow on the ground and then on up to Dalton. Again no snow on the ground. I said to Patrica now where? She said what about East. So we started heading toward Ellijay. Snow was flying around in the air, but still none sticking to the ground! I was frustrated! So we kept driving east. Then we headed into Blue Ridge Ga. (where I found snow the FIRST time after driving east then north for 2hrs) As we were going into Blue Ridge it started POURING down snow! Like turn your wipers on so you could see snow. After we passed up the sign that said “Down town Blue Ridge” go right. We started seeing snow all over the ground!!!! Yes finally! So we pulled over at this place that said a “dam” we then parked the car and got out to walk around. It was freezing! Temp was 25 but with the wind kicking like crazy it was WAY colder!

So after ALL that driving (first in the wrong place) and oohing and Awing over the little bit of snow we got to enjoy we decided we were ready to come home.

The next time I hear it’s suppose to snow any where in Ga mts I’m going STRAIT to BLUE RIDGE!!!

I think Acworth/Woodstock Ga is DUE for a BIG SNOW!!! (snow that covers the ground completly, plus some, at least 5 inches)

My Elves

My Beauties

My Beauties

I was reading a book about “Teen Girls” today, and in my head I was checking off what I have done “WRONG ALREADY” to mess up their lives when it comes to boy’s, careers and their future! It was rather depressing! But I haven’t got to the part on what to do to fix these thing’s that you have done. So hopefully their is hope.

ahhhh

ahhhh

cuties

Ahhhh

In Emiley I see myself  in her completely!!! And I think “Oh my Gosh, Please don’t do this to yourself” please build you a career after HIGH SCHOOL and don’t get married to the first man that comes around and says he will take care of you. Blah blah blah. (I heard in the movie that I love sooooo much P.S. I love you. one of the hardest thing’s to do is watch your daughter make the SAME mistakes you did and your not able to do anything about it!!!!) Well I’m living that. I just pray she will have a career FIRST before marriage. I hope she will get the career then meet a wonderful man 1st like Ricky!! Someone that loves the Lord and will respect her and treat her wonderful!

Alyssa she is a wonderful kid! (so is Emma) I think though sometimes I put her up on a petalstool because she does so well in school, she is not “Boy Crazy” she does her chores without being asked! Or without complaint! I know I shouldn’t do this but she is my”Easy Child” I hope and pray she continues to do well through high school and college!

I pray that I can learn from my mistakes and when my kids are adults they will look back on their childhood and say I had a great Mom who loved me and we had a good relationship.

Yes I got a divorce, yes I got remarried and I drug my kids through this, I just PRAY they will come out ok, and love me with not sooooo many regrets and see that men like Ricky is the husband to strive for.

{January 28, 2009}   This Post Is For My Baby Girl

Today is my baby girl’s 15th birthday! (My goodness I’m getting OLD) I can’t believe 15 yrs

Sisters

Sisters

ago I was in the hospital having my last baby! I went to the doctor that morning and he said do you want to have this baby tonight and I said “Of course” (I was sick of  being pregnant, and very excited to see my baby) so he did the exam and said meet me at the hosp at 5 pm. I did, and 6 hrs later (after patosome, an epidural, and the doc breaking my water) I had a beautiful cone head baby girl. Born on a Thursday night at 11:00 pm. As soon as they handed her to me I ooooed and ahhhhed over her and then I said “WHAT’sWRONG WITH HER HEAD?” They had to use some vacume divice and it made her have a cone head. They asured me in a couple of days it would shape up just fine and it did! She weighed in at 6.10 oz (one oz more than her sister) Her 2 yr and 8 month old sister was sooooooooooo proud of her “NEW TOY” she wanted to hold her right away. She adored her baby sis and still does to this day!

I still can’t believe she’s 15. The YEARS FLY FLY FLY by!!!!!

Alyssa saved Christmas, B-day and babysitting money up to $741 and bought herself a Laptop Computer. She had $60 left after her purchase. I’m VERY proud of her for making her mind up to save her money and then buying something worth while and something that will last her yrs. Thank you ALL who gave her money for Christmas and B-day.

Ricky and I needed sometime to chill, relax, mellow out! So we decided we would go to Red Top Mountain yesterday to do some hiking in the woods. It was a beautiful day! I over dressed, because I HATE being cold so I put on layers and by the time we were half way through the hike I started sweating. Which is a good thing cause I needed to burn some fat off.

Speaking of fat, I had been eatting healthy and exercising some UNTIL Alyssa B-day (blame it on her right) then I started on a cake rampage. It was so bad I ate cake for breakfast 3 days in a row and at least 2 pieces extra through the day! BAD!! Oh well it’s another month! I’m not giving in. I WILL DO BETTER!! I plan to make a schedule out for my exercising and sticking to it! Today when Ricky

{February 5, 2009}   Giving To Others
“No man has ever risen to the real stature of spiritual manhood until he has found that it is finer to serve somebody else than it is to serve himself.”
Woodrow T. Wilson
Twenty Eighth President of the United States

”Jesus Christ, the ultimate person who has ever lived said, ‘I came not to be served, but to serve, and to give my life for many.’ Let’s follow His example.” Everyone of us could give a little more to someone we know. Today I dare you to find someone who you can give a little something more too.

{February 13, 2009}   HAPPY B-DAY TO MY SWEET BABY

Today is my Hubby’s B-day. I thank God for him every day. He is the sweetest man I’ve ever met! God has really blessed Ricky with kindness and love for others. I see and hear Ricky going out of his way all the time to do thing’s for others. For example today is his B-day: tomorrow we leave for vacation. Today he took off work, one of his workers father-in-law passed away today is the funeral. So where is Ricky right now at 12:07 he decided he would show his re guards to his employee’s and go over the the funeral home. (Now how many people would do that on their day off, on their b-day and when they are about to go out of town on vacation, NOT MANY) Example number 2. Ricky went by the Rec center to pick up the papers where he reserved the fields for the guys to practice softball for the other teams. (that may not sound like much, but he went OUT of  his way to do this on his FREE day)

He is an example to me every day of how to be kind to others no matter how people treat you.

I love and adore you Richard Alan Dunn!

"Happy Birthday Pops!"
“Happy Birthday Pops!”

It all started on Friday, February 13th 2009. This would be my 54th birthday. Our family would meet at mom’s house for my birthday celebration. I had told Shannon that I didn’t want any parties or anything for my birthday this year. However; since it would also be the last night before Melissa would return to California, I thought … getting everyone together would be a great idea. They all prepared me a wonderful meal and we had a great time. Melissa went home with Jennifer after the party. Drew would be taking Melissa to the Airport on Saturday morning. Shannon and I got home on Friday evening at around 10:00PM. We decided to go ahead and start our vacation about 8 hours early and head to Virginia.

Our plan was to stay in Roanoke, Virginia for 3 nights and then head to Snowshoe, West Virginia for the last 3 nights. This was very unusual vacation for us. I have never taken a family vacation in the Winter and I am more of a beach guy than a mountain “goat”. I have to admit that leaving out on “Jason’s birthday” and heading to the moutains seemed all too weird for me. I’m just glad we didn’t see the movie before we left.

The drive to Roanoke was actually very uneventful. Shannon did a lot of the driving. We arrived at our Hotel at 8:00AM on Saturday morning. So we were img_0859there 8 hours before check-in .. no big deal! I casually strutted up to the front counter and said … “Can we get an early check-in?” The lady said that they were totally sold out but she would check and see. She found 1 room which she said we could have if we didn’t mind staying on the first floor. That has never .. ever.. happened to me. This was going to be the best vacation ever. Within 30 minutes Shannon had almost 100 brochures scattered across our king size bed. As we began to map out our 3-day plan, we noticed one thing we wanted to do was 150 miles north of where we were staying. Another thing was 40 miles southwest. It didn’t take us long to find out that you can make anything and everything look wonderful in a brochure. We didn’t care. We could go hiking. We could spend time in our heated pool. We could also watch our 45″ flat screen TV. We also brought out “Skip-Bo” cards.

By the time we got settled in, I realized that it was “Valentine’s Day.” We rushed to get ready to go out to eat at 4:00PM. As we pulled into TGIF, it was already super crowded. We got in ok but within 30 minutes, they had a wait time of over an hour.

img_0863

I’m am going to describe to you some of the things that I/we encounter in Virginia. One of the first things that Shannon wanted to do was to go for a ride and hike on the Blue Ridge Parkway (Sunday). Thanks to Juno (our GPS), we found it. We didn’t know which way to go so we headed north. It didn’t take long to find one of those scenic pull-off areas. Ah ha … Shannon found our first hiking trail. It looked like a pretty simple 2 mile hike. What we didn’t realize was the trail ended 2 miles on the other side of the mountain and dumped us into a street. Rather than to go back up the trail, we decided to take the looong steeeeep street back. By the time we got back, we were very tired and ill. No big deal … dust your pants off and keep going. We kept traveling (driving of course) north up and down beautiful mountains along the scenic parkway. We would stop from time to time and take pictures until … we realized that we were almost out of gas. Juno told us to go 4 or 5 miles and turn right. By the time we realized Juno was playing games with us, it was almost too late. We did find some public facilities that were closed. It was decision time. We had to continue up the Parkway to the highest peak in Virginia and then back down or do we go halfway back the way we came and exit the mountain and find a gas station. I decided to go back and take a chance going down rather than going up Mount Everest. Have I mentioned my fear of heights yet? As we eventually started down the mountain, the nose of the van looked as if we were going right off the side of the mountain. Well, praise God we made it to a small town and got gas.  From there, we continued north until we found the Natural Bridge. In case you’ve never heard of the Natural Bridge, I suggest you visit their website.  http://www.naturalbridgeva.com/

img_08911img_09041The Natural Bridge ... Pretty Amazing huh?

Our stay in Roanoke also include a 5 mile hike in the Shenandoah National Forest which is an extension of the Blue Ridge Parkway. We ran into some icy mountain roads as we continued our northern journey.  The hike was really cold but fun.  What would a trip to the Virginia Mountains be like without visiting a cave?  The next day we headed southwest to Salem. In Salem, we visited the Dixie Caverns.  Our 14 year old tour guide was pretty cool. He gave us a “history” lesson on how a dog named “Dixie” discovered the caverns. Origional huh?

What would a trip to Roanoke, Virginia without visiting downtown? From what we saw, there is no need to visit the downtown area. It was a ghost-town. Maybe it was because we visited on a Sunday afternoon. We saw buildings and ate at the local hole-in-the-wall bar. We will spare you from that experience.img_09371

That’s pretty much it from Roanoke, Virginia. I’m still contemplating on whether or not I will share with you the 10 or so really weird things that happened in Roanoke.

At 8:00AM on Tuesday morning, we left Roanoke traveling northwest to Snowshoe, West Virginia. We couldn’t wait to get there! A beautiful ski resort with real snow!

… Stay turned for Part II “Almost Heaven … West Virginia” … You be the judge!

{February 21, 2009}   Trying New Thing’s

I have been struggling  with my weight now for about 3 yrs. I keep getting fatter and fatter! (meaning I keep gaining more and more weight) For my New Years Resolution I put eat healther and exercise more. Well I am now joining a “BOOT CAMP” at a local park. Mon, Wed and Friday an hr each time, for 6 weeks. The reason I did this  so someone can HELP me achieve my goals! So I can be accountable to be some where to workout. Also I’m writing this on my blog so maybe people will ask me how it is going and I will HAVE to tell them the truth. So I’m going to be “REAL” here!

My weight is the highest it’s ever been (without being with child) 138 lbs, my bust is 40 inches (cause of flab) my hips are 38 inches. I hate that I’m putting this out here for anyone to read but I’m doing it for myself.  Also I’m posting these pictures and putting them on my fridge so I will WANT to change my habits. I don’t want to hit 40 and be up in the 140′s with my weight. (I will be 38 in Oct)

So here it goes! Hold me accountable and wish me luck on Monday at “BOOT CAMP”

I think on Sunday’s I will update everyone on my progress through the 6 weeks while doing boot camp, by sharing my measurements to keep me on track and to be accountable.

{February 24, 2009}   My First Day At Boot Camp

Here are my 1st test results:

Flexibility:  2.5″ before toes
Push Ups:  22 Knees  (in 1 min)
Sit Ups:  25  (in 1 min)
Run:  11:53  (1 mile)
Chest:  40
Waist: 36
Hips:  38
R Thigh:  19
R Bicep:  13
R Calf:  13
Weight:  139  (I was a pound off 1st time I shared)
Body Fat:  31.9%

From my instructor (coach): You did an awesome job for your first class!  You will notice an improvement in your energy and cardiovascular fitness as the weeks go on!  I am so glad to hear that you will be back!

Keep up the good work – you will succeed!

So I show up thinking I’m 5 mins early and come to find out I’m 10 mins late. (class was at 9:30 instead of 9:45am) But that’s ok cause everyone was getting measurements done! (thank goodness cause I HATE being late!) The internet said 9:45.

First thing we did after stretching was run a mile. (I haven’t done that since middle school and I’m 37 yrs old) Well let’s just say I came in LAST!! But I completed it. I could have used some ox gen after I finished though. Running in the cold is not an easy task!

After situp’s, push ups, etc.. I started filling wooozy. Then what did me in was running up some steps twice) After I did that and a few more push ups I excused myself and went behind the building and proceeded to throw up 3 times. I came back, held my head high and joined the class in the last stretches. I also told the class “I guess I shouldn’t have had MILK with my cereal before I came to workout!” I was told that would be wise!

Even though I lost my breakfast, all and all “BOOT CAMP” for the 1st day wasn’t so bad! I sure it will be harder tomorrow, but at least I’m going back, even if I did humilate  myself and was the last person to finish EVERYTHING! I certainly didn’t pay $200 for a T-shirt! (I paid $200 to get in shape and change my habits)

It also helps that I have a great teacher! (instructor, coach)

Thanks for your good wishes and prayers, keep them coming cause I will need them!

{March 2, 2009}   Up Date On BOOT CAMP

Boot Camp went REALLY well the 2nd and 3rd time. I enjoyed it a lot. I found out the hardest way how out of shape I am, but I hope to change that through the next 5 weeks!

I don’t have any changes to give you about my measurements they are the same. So I think I will give updates at my progress the last Sunday of each month. Cause I think it is going to take that long to see any changes. But I will keep you updated good or bad.

Thanks again for your support!

I have been taking the girls to this wonderful animal place since Emiley was 3 and Alyssa 13 months old. We all three have loved it through the years. But this time (2 weeks ago) Emiley decided she almost being 18 that she is bored of the place and is to old for it. (well I’m 37 and I’m not to old) Well Alyssa went and she is 15!

We took Ricky with us for the first time. I think he liked it. (at least a little) We feed some deer, chickens, ducks, goats, cows, and several other animals. I enjoy this place better than the zoo because the animals come up to you and you can touch them and feed them.

Ricky and I went to his 1st softball tournament of this yr, it was held in Birmingham Alabamarrrrrrrr! It was a 1 dayer, seeing how it was a “Warm up touney”. They played 3 games and won 3 games!!  Hear it from the coaches mouth!

How did we do.

It was the 4th batter of the 3rd inning before we made our first out, and that was the only out we made that game. It was the 4th inning of the 3rd game befor we made 3 outs in any one inning. We hit 13 of 15 HR allowed. Score 70 runs in 3 games. And you had to hit  better than .800 to break into the top 12 for batting. team average was.867

We did what we should have for being the only real 50 ( and we had our major team ) playing against mostly 55 AAA and 60 major teams. We did good with still some room to improve as we get into the real tournament schedules.

Good job guys.
My hubby hit one over with at least one person on base!

Seeing how I missed Friday March 13, and today Monday March16 due to being sick with Allergies or something else, I missed the “Mid Term” to see if I improved on my mile run, sit ups and push ups. I hate that I missed, cause I was improving on my stamina and starting to feel good from working out! But I will be back to it on Wed. I have 7 classes left. I’m heading to the doc at 1:45 to see what’s up with me, hopeful he will give me something to make me feel better and so I can breathe normally. Then maybe I can do a workout later today and do one tomorrow.

I’m not giving up! At least I have seen SOME improvement! Oh and thanks to my step daughter Jennifer I am eating healthier by doing her simple diet that helped her loose weight. (Thanks Jenn)

I love and adore you Richard Alan Dunn!1st-softball-tournament-2009-216

First I must tell you when Ricky and I got married we talked about it but no one asked each other we just did it!

The morning of our anniversary Ricky gave me a wonderful card and some red roses and yellow roses. That was on Thursday. Friday night we went on our regular date to the movies. After that we went in the van to NICKAJACK park (old memories there) Ricky pulled in the parking lot, asked me to sit in the back seat he then put on a dvd for me. It was pictures with music of us when we first started our life’s together to the present it was AMAZING! Then he brought out this BUILD A BEAR box. Gave it to me. I opened it and it was a bear dressed in a Georgia Bull Dawg outfit with a hat and shoes. Then Ricky got down on one knee in the van pressed the button on the bear and it said “What you see is what you get, Will you marry me?” Of course I cried and said yes! (I have teased him in the past that he had never really asked me to marry him, so now he has!) After that we went to the Chesse Cake Factory and had dessert! It was amazing!

Saturday we tried to do some fishing but didn’t catch anything. But that was ok. Then we went bowling. After that we went to Papadeaux resturant and I had a huge 8 oz Lobster Tail! It was amazing! We had an amazing Anniversary.

I gave Ricky a few thing’s one of them was a time capsule. We put somethings in it and are going to bury it in the back yard and dig it up in 5 yrs on our 10th anniversary to check it out!

Ricky is soooooooo amazing to me! I love him more than he will EVER know!

{April 29, 2009}   MY MIRACLE

Well it all started Easter Sunday April 12,2009. We were at Ricky’s mom’s house for lunch. Ricky started having chest pain’s again! (worse than ever before) (Thursday, Fri, Sat, they were mild) He told his mom to call 911. The paramedics came out took him to Saint Joseph Hosp E.R.

E.R.
E.R.

They did test after test. Then admitted him the hosp. They didn’t find anything until Monday morning when they did a stress test. (make you walk on a treadmill) When he did that he had an actual Heart Attack. So they took him into surgery immediately! He had a DOUBLE BY PASS on two of his main arteries. Was in ICU for 24 hrs. Then went to a reg room. Then went home late Friday afternoon.

His scar
His scar

(also they had to cut him near his growing and once in each leg to take the veins out to put in each artery) He lost 26lbs in 2 weeks! So then Saturday night his neck start hurting on the left side. It got worse. Finally Monday we went to his doc, he told him to go to the E.R. at St. Joes (big big mistake) I can’t even get into all the long drawn out details of our 2nd E.R. visit, but we got there at 2pm, they didn’t put him in a room till 2am Tuesday and it was not due to TESTING! Come to find out he had a blood clot in his neck. He stayed in the hosp another 5 days. We left on Friday around noon. He was in the hosp a total of 11 days!

Long story short: He is doing MUCH better. At home recovery from surgery. God did perform a TRUE MIRACLE! Cause Ricky said he really didn’t think he was going to make it! God had other plans! Thanks Be To God!

{June 29, 2009}   High Falls Georgia State Park

I haven’t been to High Falls State Park since 2001 and before that since I was a kid. Ricky has never been. So we kept saying we would go there sometime together and have a picnic. Well of course when we finally did go it was round trip 160 miles. It was 94 degrees so putting the both of those together, plus we decided to go fishing which we only caught one small brim and the pool was FULL of little kids, needless to say it was not as I remembered it the last two times I went. Ricky was not impressed. Even though it was raging hot we did go on one the hikes, since we drove ALLLLLL that way. We did get some nice pic’s but I doubt we will go back!High Falls And old pics of Shannon 031High Falls High Falls

{July 17, 2009}   Braves Game June 09

Ricky wanted to go to the Braves game to check out this new pitcher Tommy Hanson, so we went. The game was great they won. Of course I had to get a giant hot dog and some cotton candy. When we walked in they were handing out these Brian McCann 1/2 batts, which was pretty cool. All and all we had a good time.
